Summary
The roads we erect and the cars we drive maximize our comfort and efficiency, but at what cost? AS YOU PASS BY commences an exploration of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, an infamous highway in New York City that slices through the two named boroughs. You pause in Woodside, Queens to observe one of the many spaces that have been sacrificed in order to create and maintain the utopian image of New York City on the opposite side of the East River. What you see is the beautiful way in which one New York citizen activates a seemingly derelict stretch of land. This project was made possible in part with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts' Electronic Media and Film Finishing Funds grant program, administered by The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes as well as from funds from the Austrian Cultural Forum New York.
