Lisa and Hrvoje are so in love that they move in together after just three weeks. At the housewarming party, the charming Croatian takes his heart in his hands and spontaneously proposes to his beloved, which she accepts. The happiness of the young couple would be perfect if Hrvoje's Catholic mother Darinka didn't insist on a traditional wedding in Croatia. Of course, she would also like to get to know Lisa's parents, and this is exactly where the problem lies: Lisa's mother Theresa separated from her husband Gerd after a turbulent hippie marriage and has been avoiding her ex-husband like the plague ever since. She resolutely rejects Lisa's middle-class marriage plans - but she also owes a great debt to her daughter, with whom she has not contacted for years. And so Theresa jumps over her shadow, gnashing her teeth, to travel to Croatia with Gerd and play the harmonious couple with a friendly smile. But while the wedding preparations are in full swing between exuberant hospitality, boozy fraternization and foreign customs, Theresa accidentally finds out that the groom apparently already has a child by someone else. The wedding must be prevented in any case, right?
